The number of animals cruelly abandoned in street rubbish containers in the Balearics over the last few days has skyrocketed a report revealed yesterday.
The situation is seen by the relevant authorities as dramatic, since animal refuge centres are overwhelmed with the number of cases and struggling to find a solution for the problem. Over the last month at least 50 puppies were found wet cold and fighting for their lives in such conditions.
Merche Bernabeu, from Llucmajor’s Animal Association, one of the areas where the problem has been more evident, slammed the authorities claiming they are turning a blind eye on the issue.
“In less than a week we have recovered 22 puppies. And we see situations like this every day. Something is going on and no one is doing anything about it.
