Madrid.—The managing director of Melia Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer was yesterday awarded with the prize for best businessman of the year by Conde Nast Traveler, a UK leading travel magazine.
Melia Hotels was founded by Escarrer’s father in the mid fifties and since then has gone on to become one of Spain’s most important companies inland and overseas.
Escarrer expressed his delight with the award, presented by the President of the publication Javier Pascual, adding that it’s the recognition of a long term commitment with the Spanish tourism industry. “We stood by the Spanish market during its worst period and continuously opened new hotels and created new jobs. The Calvia Beach Hotel in Majorca has been a particularly positive project,” Escarrer said.
