Palma.—It´s official. Women rule in the British expatriate community in the Balearics! The official census figures realised this week not only revealed that the British community in the Balearics had fallen to the 18,000 mark it is also revealed that there are more British women than men on the islands. The Spanish Institute for Statistics has broken down the figures into age and sex. Interestingly enough there are six British residents who were born before the start of the First World War living in the Balearics and have reached the ripe old age of 100. Talk of an ageing expat community or even one that is getting younger has also proved to be off the mark according to the figures. The biggest expat group are those who are aged between 65 and 69 and a close second is those aged between 45 and 49. There are almost 100 British expats who have reached the aged of 90 and 22 who are aged 95 to 99. There are around 1,800 expatriates Britons who are of school age.
