Calvia.—Calls for a crackdown on all inclusive holidays by the opposition socialist group on the Calvia Council received a broad welcome by Bulletin online readers yesterday although some questioned whether it was possible to actually legislate against this type of package holiday while others dismissed it as a pre-election stunt.
But it has certainly put all inclusive holidays into the political arena and the opposition group will be calling on the ruling Partido Popular on the council to lobby the Balearic Government to act on all inclusive holidays which have allegedly led to the closures of hundreds of bars and restaurants in tourist resorts over recent years.
The PSOEgroup, the largest on the council after the ruling Partido Popular, claimed that all inclusive holidays only benefitted the tour firm and the hotelier but caused plenty of damage to resort business.
