Palma.—Police chiefs yesterday confirmed that the National Police and the Guardia Civil have dismantled three narcotics gangs in Majorca, arrested nine people and seized significant quantities of drugs.
Operation Brasada Code was mounted on Tuesday and drew to a close yesterday.
This operation was the final phase of a crack down on drug dealing in Majorca which began at the start of the year and has resulted in a total of 25 people being arrested, the seizure of 10 kilos of cocaine, 200 kilos of hashish and 22,000 euros in cash along with four vehicles and firearms.
On Tuesday, simultaneous raids were carried on properties in Pollensa, Algaida, Palma and on the Son Banya shanty town on the outskirts of the capital which is home to the island’s most active gangs.
From the start of the investigation, the focus was on the Moroccan organisation smuggling drugs into Majorca, primarily to San Banya from where they were then distributed across the island.
