Palma.—During the first quarter of this year, the highest rate of domestic violence in Spain was registered here in the Balearics.
According to the latest figures from the Domestic Violence Watchdog, here in the Balearics, 1,008 reports of domestic violence were made to the police.
That correlates to 18.24 per every 10,000 women, nearly six points above the national average which stands at 12.80 for the first three months of this year.
The most recent fatal incident was carried out in Soller, on 10 June when Maria Rosa Martinez was strangled to death by her ex-husband on the family estate before shooting himself with a rifle.
