Palma.—The Balearic Institute for Family Policy yesterday tabled a motion before the local parliament  asking for a new commission to be created to monitor the situation of families in the Balearics, in particular poverty to mark the fact that the United Nations is currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of   international family year.
Figures released this week by the Catholic charity Caritas revealed that 27.3 percent of the Balearic population is facing social exclusion and the institute believes that measures need to be taken to address the growing problem of poverty.
