Palma.—A total of 460 members of the Guardia Civil and the National Police are being deployed to the Balearics as part of the annual summer security operation to help increase policing in the region.
The Central Government Delegate to the Balearics, Teresa Palmer, was yesterday in Madrid for talks with police chiefs and politicians about this summer’s operation which will officially be mounted on 1 July and run until 30 September.
The Secretary of State for Security, Francisco Martinez, announced that a total of 28,535 extra police are going to be involved in tightening security in the country’s main tourist destinations.
Martinez said that the primary aim of the annual operation is “to make sure that people feel safe.”
