Palma.—A record forty-three percent of all fatal traffic accidents in Spain are drug or alcohol related according to official figures from the Traffic Department.
The report says that almost half of all traffic accident victims would have failed a drug or alcohol test.
The figures come as the Traffic Department launches it annual campaign to reduce the number of road deaths. The authorities will be launching a campaign over the coming months to warn motorists of the risks involved of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the wheel of a car.
Since the introduction of the points system on driving licences there has been a big reduction in the number of road accidents. But the number of alcohol and drug related accidents continues to be a big concern for the local authorities.
