Palma.—The Balearic Government is spending two million euros on a forest fire prevention campaign so that there is no repeat of the massive blaze which devastated the Andratx area last summer.
The local minister for Agriculture, Biel Company, visited a new water deposit which has been built in Fornalutx and which can store 450,000 litres of water. Four other deposits will also be built across the island over the coming months at a cost of 250,000 euros.
“It will basically mean that we have an ample supply of water which can be used to fight forest fires all across the Sierra de Tramuntana (mountain range),” the minister said yesterday.
