Calvia—A 43-year-old British man was in police custody yesterday after a 60-year-old Spanish woman was knocked down and killed by a car on Monday night just outside Calvia village, police sources said yesterday.
According to press reports the 43-year-old was detained in his vehicle close to the incident. He was being questioned by police yesterday morning before going to court for a preliminary hearing yesterday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses the woman was walking next to the road when she was hit by the vehicle. The emergency services rushed to the scene and she was taken to hospital although she died shortly afterwards, according to police.
A police spokesman said yesterday that a blue soft-top car with British number plates, had been seized.
Police have launched a full investigation to establish the causes of the incident.
