The President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza, yesterday said that his government is not ruling out taking legal action, if it has to, to stop oil prospecting from going ahead in Balearic waters.
“We’ll do everything that we can to stop prospecting from going ahead,” he said.  There was fresh controversy last month when it was revealed that prospecting had been carried out in Balearic waters last year but the Balearic government had apparently decided not to inform the general public. The Minister for Environment, Biel Company maintains that they were not informed until prospecting was under way and then it was too late to stop.
