London.—Balearic government spokesperson, Nuria Riera, said yesterday that all of the regional security forces have the full backing of the government which is prepared to cooperate with the judiciary in order to make sure that the investigation into “the alleged irregularities which have been committed” by the Chief of the Local Police in Calvia and two other member s of the force, is concluded as quickly as possible.
Riera said yesterday, after the weekly government meeting, that if any irregularities have been committed, “they have been committed by certain individuals and not the force.”
The former Chief of the Local Police in Calvia, Jose Antonio Navarro and his two colleagues, have been held on remand in Palma prison since the early hours of last Monday and it is understood that Navarro’s lawyer yesterday lodged an appeal in an attempt to have his client released from jail.
