THE Balearic government is a on a collision course with teaching unions which could disrupt the start of the autumn term. Idon´t think that anyone would disagree that the Balearic government´s new teaching plan in English, Spanish and Catalan, is not a good one. However, I agree with the teachers who claim that the Balearic government wants to introduce the system on the cheap, in other-words teachers are not prepared for what will be a fundamental change. This is a sad state of affairs especially as the future education of our children is at stake. The opposition Socialist party has said that they will scrap the new three language system if they are elected to power next spring. So in other words even if the government manages to push forward the new system it faces the scrap heap in just one year´s time because opinion polls point to defeat for the now ruling Partido Popular. What a disaster. I think that our politicians should go to the bottom of the class and stay there.
