Palma.—The Chief of the Local Police Force in Marraxti, Antonio Ledesdema, was yesterday arrested by the Guardia Civil who are investigating claims that he was linked to alleged local police corruption in Calvia, where he once served on the force.
According to the council, two plain clothed members of the Guardia Civil presented themselves at the Local Police station at 11am and then went to the police chief’s house, where he was arrested.
The council praised the “impeccable” work the police chief has carried out, adding that it is convinced that Ledesdema has “nothing to do with investigations being carried outside of Marratxi”.
Nevertheless, the council said that it “respects the judicial system and the processes which have to be followed.”
Spokesperson for the Balearic government, Nuria Riera, said yesterday that, if it can in any way, it will cooperate fully with the prosecution.
