Editorial: Well done Minorca

I spent the last three days looking across at Minorca with envy. Not only is Minorca proud of its British roots its close association with Britain is growing. Over the weekend there was a British fair selling British products, backed by the local authorities and in Es Castell, the former garrison town built by the British, there was a display of British and Spanish troops in period costumes. And ofcourse the icing on the cake was the performance of the Red Arrows over the Bay of Mahon on Monday. Afterwards there was a small reception for the pilots at the British built hospital on the Isla del Rey in the centre of  Mahon which has been lovingly restored by volunteers many of them British. The common bond which exits between Britons and Minorcans is alive and well and is growing. We could take note on what is being achieved in Minorca.  This was the third performance by the Red Arrows in Minorca is four years, quite an achievement for Minorca. The show had been organised by British and ofcourse Spanish residents. Many parts of Spain with a large British expat community would love a performance by the Red Arrows and Minorca has had three. Now obviously British tourism is vital for Minorca. The majority of tourists to Minorca are British and ofcourse on Monday they were given a real treat. Well done Minorca. You maybe a small island but you have certainly shown the light. Perhaps one day Majorca could have a display by the Red Arrows.
