Palma will host its first miniature Formula One race next month. The Palma Port Kart Cup 2014 race was yesterday confirmed, taking over from Monaco.

Palma.— The race will take place on 24, 25, 26 October on the streets of the Balearic capital, with a variety of side events already scheduled, that promise to entertain all motor racing enthusiasts.
The concept behind the event  is to promote  karting to a wider public audience by setting up  race tracks in the centre of a town or city, creating a fun atmosphere for the public by including free style motocross shows, night time parties, car shows, fun rides and of course the main event, the Karting GP Championship.
Organisers are expecting the race to attract visitors from all over the world, boosting not only the popularity of the event but also tourism and hotel occupation figures outside the high season.
Albert Pons, the President of the Balearic Port Authority, Arbex & Team’s (organiser of the event) CEO Agustin Arbex, Fernando Gilet, the Minister for  for Culture and Sports and several top figures from the motor racing world including the president of the Automobile Federation, Rafael Abraham, showed, during a press conference this week, their “enthusiasm and delight” with what this event represents for Palma and Majorca.
The event kick off on the  Friday at 1pm with the free training sessions in the different categories (there are up to 30 participants in each one). On Saturday races will run uninterruptedly between 9am and 7.40pm.
Sunday’s programme has also been confirmed.
