PARENTS in many cases have gone out and spent 200 euros on buying school books for the new term. These school books are based around the new three language learning plan introduced by the Balearic government. Pupils are told what subjects will be taught in each of the three languages, English, Spanish and Catalan  and the new school term gets underway. Then all of a sudden the Balearic High Court rules against the new teaching plan and throws the whole state school education process into doubt. There are many questions which parents and pupils are asking;will children need new school books if the new learning plan is scrapped? Will parents be offered any compensation if this is the case? The list goes on. But what concerns me is that the education of future generations is being put at risk and this is a scandalous state of affairs. Teachers are opposed to the new plan because they claim that they are not prepared. The Balearic government says that the three language plan is the future. The judiciary says that it is not fit for purpose and the opposition socialist party says that it will scrap it if they win next year´s local elections. But at the end of the day we are talking about education. There is a need for local school children to learn English;it is the international language. But teachers need the necessary tools to finish the job. If these tools are not being provided then there is little which can be done. But we must end this dispute quick.
