WHAT a mess. Acomplete disaster. I could go on. A politician being sacked these days is just another day in the office. But when the Minister involved is the Balearic Minister for Education you start getting concerned and then when you hear that she was fired because of a court order banning her new three language learning system, you get very worried. And this is exactly what happened yesterday. Education minister Joana Maria Camps has been held politically responsible for the complete mess the government´s new three language learning system has become. Infact, despite fighting talk from the Balearic President Jose Ramon Bauza yesterday, the whole situation has become a disaster zone and pupils are in the dark. They don´t know whether they will be taught in three languages, English, Spanish and Catalan or will it be a return to the old system which had greater emphasis on Catalan. School books have been bought but, in some cases, they could be useless now because of the sudden change in the teaching situation. Camps had to go. But some are saying that Bauza should be pondering his future as well. Afterall, the three language learning plan was one of his key policies. And now it is one step away from the scrap heap. But what is even sadder is we are not talking about politicians coming or going. We are talking about the education of our children and they will be the ones that suffer the most. Disgraceful.
