Palma.—The Balearic Socialist Party announced yesterday they will be urging the Council of Majorca to reject the proposal to expand the port of El Molinar.
Through spokeswoman Mercedes Garrido, the party confirmed the majority of neighbours have shown their opposition to it and added the expansion project is “over dimensional and inadequate”.
The party is now proposing the draft of a new project.
Garrido explained a new plan is necessary, but one that takes into consideration the areas, the characteristics of the neighbourhood and most important gather the approval and support of the locals.
The party said they understand it’s the responsibility of the public authorities to ensure the economical situation of the area continues to develop but reinforced the need to “understand the impact the dimensions of the project might have in the landscape, natural environment and heritage values.”
