THERE has been a surge in home sales in the Balearics as the improving economic situation across Europe helps foreign buyers realise their dream of owning a home in the sun. According to figures released yesterday by the National Spanish Institute of Statistics sales of homes rose by a record breaking 20 percent in August in the Balearics.
According to the figures 23,500 homes changed hands in August across the country, an increase of 1.1 percent. But as usual the Balearics are doing better than the rest of the country and the islands are leading the recovery in the property market at the moment.
Across Spain there were increases in property sales in Madrid (19.5 percent), Catabra (15.9) and the Basque Country (9.9 percent) and of course the Balearics (20 percent).
