Palma.—The Mayor of Costitx, Antoni Salas, yesterday declared three days of mourning after a two month old baby died after being hit in the head by the wing mirror of a van.
The tragic accident happened yesterday morning when the baby’s father, a pediatrician at a local hospital, went for a walk with his baby son in his arms.
They apparently turned off the main street and headed down a very narrow road when they found themselves facing an on coming van and were unable to get out of the way.

Hospital
The wing mirror hit the baby’s head and his father’s elbow.
Immediately, the father realised that the damage to his baby’s head could be serious and, without even bothering to call an ambulance, drove him directly to Son Espases Hospital in Palma.
The baby was admitted in a serious condition and his condition deteriorated rapidly until he sadly died.
