Palma.—The nautical industry has enjoyed a lucrative year with the sale of new boats up by over ten percent in comparison to last year.
The Federation of Nautical Commerce, Industry and Services (FADIN), reported yesterday that, up until the end of last month, 10.3 percent more new vessels had been sold than in 2013.
In total, 3,932 new vessels have been sold and, according to Jordi Senties, FADIN President,  said that the industry as a whole is “very satisfied” with how the market has performed this year.
“This is further evidence that the worst of the recession is over and we can now start rebuilding the sector,” he claimed.
And, leading the upturn has been the nautical sector in Palma.
Since the start of the year, a total of 487 nautical vessels were sold in Palma, 33 percent of the overall market.
Palma also led the charter market with 217 vessels being hired out.
Senties did, however, point out that there has been a surge in the number of jet skis being purchased by rental companies targeting tourists and that has helped to boost sales as well.
