Palma.—Balearic President Jose Ramon Bauza was forced to defend his social policies in parliament yesterday after his government was slammed by opposition groups for leaving a legacy of poverty in the Balearics.
Bauza said that the social services budget had increased this year substantially and he also claimed that the improving economic situation meant that fewer people were now living in poverty. But the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE)dismissed the claims and said that poverty was a serious problem in the islands.
