Palma.—A civic movement formed to fight plans to redevelop and enlarge the El Molinar yacht club have collected 750 signatures from local residents against the project.
Ambitious plans have been announced for the small club which is close to the Convention Centre which is being built along Palma seafront.
But some residents oppose the project on environmental grounds and have formed their own association, called Save El Molinar. They are actively fighting the project and have called on the Palma City Council to stop the planned redevelopment.
However, boat owners claim that a bigger port is needed because there is a long waiting list for moorings on the island. During the summer months local yacht clubs can´t cope with demand.
