There is not sufficient time for all homes to be able to adapt.”  These were the words of Rafael Cortés, the president of the Balearics Association of Telecommunications Installers, talking about the need to adapt to new channels for terrestrial digital television broadcasting which will begin on 31 December this year. Cortés said that, in addition to the impossibility of meeting the deadline, there is a supply problem because the two hundred or so accredited technicians in the Balearics will only able to attend to 45% of communities which need systems to be adapted in order that television can be received. The initial forecast for the number of communities that would need to adjust their systems was put at 2,500, mostly in large towns, but Cortés has pointed out that each installation requires up to four hours work and that without any assistance from the regional government they can do no more. While there may well be problems for communities, houses will have no such problems with re-tuning their televisions.
