A senior official from a Balearic government opposition party warned yesterday that there are still 53,000 Balearic unemployed workers without any kind of benefits or financial support.

Palma.—Joana Barceló from the socialist party PSIB, praised the current executive for the creation of 14,000 new jobs last month  compared with November last year, but stressed that unemployment figures in the region have only gone down by 7,187.
To add to that, the government has cut down their financial support for citizens  in that situation by almost sixteen percent compared with last year’s budget, the equivalent to 7,7 million euros.
“This is an alarming situation,” Barceló said.
“The difference between the jobs created and the unemployment figures show that companies are still on the back foot when it comes to hiring new staff while short term contracts are still the main pattern.”
