Palma.—The Balearic minister for tourism, Jaime Martinez, said yesterday that the summer season next year could start earlier and could be better than the season this year.
Martinez, who has been holding talks with all the major tour operators, said yesterday that he believed that more tourists would be heading to our shores next year especially from Britain where the improving economic situation means that households have more money to spend. The announcement that the British government has also scrapped the air travel taxes for children has also been welcomed because it will make a family holiday cheaper.
This year a record number of tourists came on holiday to the island although their spending power was less than expected, according to official figures.
