The Balearic government has handed the “hot potato” of holiday rentals to the various island councils adding yet more complexity to this thorny issue. Under pressure from hoteliers the Balearic government has been cracking down on illegal holiday lets during the summer months and as part of the Tourist Plan did introduce legislation which allowed some home-owners to rent out their properties during the season. Thousands of apartments and homes are rented out illegally during the summer months in Majorca and home owners want clear legislation which will allow them to carry out this practice legally. But the Balearic government appears to have got “cold feet” over the issue and has decided to hand it over to the various island Councils which must decide on what action to take.
Island Councils must now decide over “illegal” holiday rentals in new plan
