The Palma City Council has come to the rescue of residents in Sa Lonja and Calle Fabrica and have ordered restaurants and bars in the area to close earlier as part of a noise crackdown.
Restaurants with terraces in Sa Lonja and Calle Fabrica will have to close at 11.30p.m. under the new legislation, an hour earlier than the present closing time. In Atarazanas, next to the Balearic govermment headquarters ,bars with terraces will now have to close at midnight.
Even the rubbish collection service will be delayed from 7a.m. to 8a.m. so that residents in the various areas can get a goodnight´s sleep.
However, business owners, who pay high taxes for their terrace licences, are expected to oppose the new legislation because of its negative impact on trade.
