The Council of Majorca, which is responsible for the island’s roads, yesterday agreed to go ahead with improvement work along the road between Ses Salines and Colonia de Sant Jordi.
Road safety has been a major issue along the stretch of road over the past few years with a spate of accidents, some fatal, having occurred along the road.
It was announced yesterday that 5.25 million euros is going to be spent on improving road safety  and that a bicycle lane is also going to be built.
The road is also going to be widened, in some black sports, the road narrows to just 5.5 metres.
The contract for the project will be put up for public tender next month.
