Balearic Health Authority (IB Salut) has started diverting patients to private and specialised clinics, after the public Emergency services on the island almost collapsed last weekend with the sheer amount of residents suffering or complaining of sickness, in particular ‘flu.
The ‘flu and mostly respiratory problems were the main reason for patients heading to Accident and Emergency departments at local public hospitals.
IB-Salut explained that Mondays are usually one of the most complicated days of the week because few patients are discharged from hospitals over the weekend.
On Sunday alone, staff on emergency duty attended 1,136 patients, but on Monday morning that situation started to change with patients being redirected to other clinics and specialised medical centres.
