The number of people retiring, or looking to retire abroad has increased dramatically in the last few decades.
Over a million British expatraites are estimated to have their state pensions paid overseas and this number is ever-increasing.
Of the estimated six million UK adults planning to retire abroad, there is a fairly even split between Europe and the rest of the world. Spain is the most popular overseas retirement destination by far with 26% of the vote. Recent government figures estimated over a million UK citizens are currently living in Spain. Other popular European countries for retirement include France (17%) and Italy (10%) which feature second and sixth respectively on the list in terms of popularity. Beyond Europe, a predicted 3.2 million UK adults are planning retirement further afield.
Spain still most popular retirement destination in the United Kingdom
