The Balearics continue to be one of the regions with the most expensive hotels, according to the latest monthly survey by trivago.es.
The average nightly room rate in the region is 126 euros and Palma is the second most expensive city.
The average nightly room rate in the capital is 160 euros, second only to Barcelona where average hotel room rates are 176 euros per night.
The national average is 112 euros and, along with the Balearics, hotel rates in the Canaries and Madrid are also much higher.
The national average for May is nine percent higher than May last year and, according to hotel industry sources, demonstrates the confidence there is in the market that this year is going to be another record year and the levels of quality have been significantly improved and that guests believe they are getting value for money.
The three cheapest regions to stay are Asturias, Aragon and Galicia where average nightly room rates are 67, 72 and 75 euros respectively.
Castellon is the cheapest city where average hotel rates are 55 euros.
