The Calvia branch of the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) criticised the alleged use of the foreign residents department on the Calvia Council for the purpose of electioneering.
In a communique, the PSOEsaid: “Users of this service (the foreigner´s department)have complained to members of the Socialist party that they have received information there about the “Partido Popular” and even received invitations to political events by employees of this department.”
“Another example which highlights the use of said department for the purpose of party politics over the years occurred during the European elections. A German couple commented to Socialist party members that they had been asked to volunteer to help in these elections by the councils. They imagined they would be helping with the setting -up of tables etc. To their dismay, on the day of the elections, they were each given an official P.P identification tag, without having received any information about their expected role there. Obviously, the couple refused to participate,” the PSOEsaid in a communique.
The opposition party continued:“The Socialist Party wish to highlight that if they should govern in May, not only will they continue with this service, they plan to renovate and improve it. This will be done upholding standards of quality and impartiality.”
Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, candidate for Mayor of Calvia declared that “This department is to be used as a service to the public, not for party politics and personal interests. We want a well-run professional department”.
