Dear Sir,
l This weekend, “Name and address supplied,” wrote a well argued letter to your newspaper regarding Magalluf.
Although I basically agree with him, I don’t think the hotels are entirely to blame. Anyone who knows the area will probably agree that during daylight hours it has always been a ghost town, quiet and very laid back. I would suggest that before AI anyone who wished to drink was either doing so in their rooms or on the beach and not generally in bars.
Quite a few years ago a Spanish gentleman opened two corner stores on Punta Ballena and overnight became a very wealthy man. The rumour that he didn’t know how to sign his own name on cheques is beside the point.
Also this weekend, an interesting article about Benidorm was published in the Sunday Times.
The gist was that it is open during the entire year and that everybody is making a living.
Which leads to the following questions. What are they doing right ( or what are we doing wrong ) and are the hotels all generally AI ?
The answers may not solve Magallufs current problems, bar one major one which nobody seems inclined to discuss, but they may help to bring light on the subject.
Yours sincerely
Simon Tow
