Passenger numbers at Palma’s airport were at record levels in May. A total of 2,628,025 passengers passed through Son Sant Joan last month, an increase of 5.1% over 2014. The figures issued by AENA, the national airports’ authority, mean that May is the second month to this year register record passenger numbers and there have now been fourteen consecutive months of growth at the airport.
The national market proved to be particularly important in May, as the number of passengers from Spain - for regular flights - increased by 12.% (over 450,000), while the figure was charter flights was also up: by 22.5% to 5,345. International passenger numbers rose less significantly - 3.6% - with Germany leading the way, followed by the UK: Switzerland came fourth in terms of national markets, Spain having been third. There were, in May, a total of 19,766 flights. So far this year, the airport has registered a total of 6,511,374 passengers, an increase of 4.5%, with the total number of flights - 53,676 - up by 5.3%
