Employment numbers were up in all parts of Spain last month, when compared with 2014.
The Balearics was the best-performing region, but the growth was slightly higher in the autonomous north African city of Melilla, where it was up 4.97%.
Of other regions, Murcia registered 4.36% growth, the Canaries 4.18% and Valencia 4.14%. Against this annual rise there was a monthly fall in social security registrations across Spain - down by 0.8% (over 134,000 people) in August compared with July.
The secretary of state for social security, Tomas Burgos, says that August’s figure does not alter the “clearly positive” trend, as the momentum of employment activity, in annual terms, is “very intense.” Despite this drop, specific sectors showed employment growth - health and social services and the hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants, etc.).
As for gender balance, there were more men in employment in Spain than women. The respective totals were 9.3 and 7.8 million, which represented increases of 3.5% and 2.9% over August 2014.

So how does the rise in unemployment contradict the so-called 'record tourist season'? If this is a so-called 'record tourist season 'then perhaps your politicians need to get of their back sides and out of their offices and take a look at the reality of the situation for themselves and think long and hard about introducing a new tourist tax.
