The Balearic tourism ministry says that at present it does not have any legal means of preventing or limiting self-service alcohol in all-inclusive hotels.

This help-yourself style of supply has come in for criticism from the town hall in Calvia, since its introduction this summer in hotels in Magalluf and Santa Ponsa.

The ministry adds, though, that it is looking to see if there is something that can be done from a legal perspective.

Tourism legislation currently addresses all-inclusive only in a generic fashion, and so there is nothing specific that applies to tables being full of bottles of alcohol - gin, vodka and other spirits - and to beer dispensers which clients can help themselves to.
