The Balearic government will apply a tourist tax in 2016 “with or without the help of the state” because it is “absolutely necessary.” So says vice-president and minister for tourism, Biel Barceló, in referring to whether or not the state will permit the charging of the tax at ports and airports and in arguing that the tax is necessary to improve the competitiveness of the Balearics and because it is a social demand by the citizenship, which had “made possible a political change” in the Balearics at the elections in May.

Barcelo needs his head testing.
IN the late 80 s Tax was collected by The Ancient crumbling Hotels. These Hotels were THROWN UP in the 60 s/ 70 s. SOME have been blown up. Tourists were told the Tax was to clean up the Island, from the mess that Tourists made. If the Tax was stopped ( which it was) we were told our payments would be refunded. All I received was advertising gleaned from my details left to effect a fictitious repayment. THIS PROPOSED TAX WILL BE RELUCTANTLY PAID, AND FORGOTTEN. Which th0se that are already extremely rich from tourism, will become even richer.
i will not come to Majorca next year because of this tax, Majorca needs to remember that most hotels are over forty years old, you can only do so much with a paintbrush every year, so now you want to get more money from people that keep your island afloat.no thanks, its Greece for me.
You have just condemned the island and its tourist sector to death I hope you have plenty of social security to pay your unemployed
