The National Police has delivered what it is reporting as one of the most decisive blows to drugs trafficking in Palma. It has come with the arrest of a 33-year-old Spaniard who was picked up last Thursday as part of an operation named Petit and who had been the subject of several months of investigation to uncover a complex framework that had been established.

The suspect was found with 200 grams of cocaine as well as a small amount of another drug that had been hidden in his private parts. Police knew, however, that there was more to be found and so a warrant was issued to search two addresses in Llucmajor and one in Can Pastilla. The total amount of drugs found as a result of these searches were two kilograms of cocaine, thirty grams of ecstasy and one and a half kilograms of a cutting agent substance to adulterate the drug. In addition there were various instruments and pieces of equipment for preparing doses which amounted to a complete laboratory for the processing of cocaine.

Apart from the drugs, more than 30,000 euros were found as well as a Browning 7.65 pistol and Llama 38 special revolver, both in perfect condition, plus boxes of ammunition. These are being analysed to see if they have been used for any crime.

This latest arrest is the culmination of the Petit operation led by drug squad officers in the Balearics and which has been centred on drug trafficking in and around Arenal.
