The Ciutat de s’Arenal residents’ association today lodged an official complaint about the activity of some of the bars along Playa de Palma. According to the association, an increasing number of bars are competing for business by offering happy hours, free bar and a T-shirt for just 23 euros which is leading to a spike in the level of alcohol abuse and a rise in the number of incidents involving anti-social behaviour.

This suggests to me that far from boom times and ''record tourist season'' hype, bars,at least are finding the times very tough otherwise they would not have to resort to such offers.
