The change to the tourist model of Magalluf and therefore the changing image of the resort will be reinforced in 2017 when the first five-star hotel opens. Sebastián Darder of the hoteliers' association has announced that Viva Hotels will be opening the Viva Zafiro Palmanova & Spa on the Avenida Saboners (which it can be argued is probably more Torrenova). It is scheduled to open its doors on 2 June.

You can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.
I first came on a holiday to Magaluf in 1987, when I was 20 and it was a party place then. Very Little has changed since then except that all the bad and "risque" things that happen are captured on film to be shared around the likes of facebook
David, are you Wolfgang in disguise? Magalluf is a successful resort for young people. Snobs should shut up and accept the fact that Magalluf works and is much more successful than other resorts. Rather than deride the place, I would encourage it. The gentrification of Magalluf is a disgrace, the young have a right to party, shame on you all.
Let's hope these plans work but I reckon it will take another 20 years before we get the lowlifes off the island...unfortunately...
Is this a conversion of the Viva in the area already? Is the area ready to justify guest to pay five star prices around hookers? Would it not be a better idea to totally change the name in the area of Magaluf to a NEW name Its a matter of time till the younger people realise it is not what it was ? Great to see and read all the improvement and much needed hotel moderation. Compared to quality offered in other wonderful places Mallorca in this area is way overpriced Lets hope that the hotels that have been getting away with murder quality wise get knocked down
