Just noticed on the picture and it says there are 3000 families going to be destroyed. Has Palma airport got 3000 licensed taxis operating from it ? No wonder they want to stop having buses direct to the resorts as the tourists have the mouths of 3000 families to feed. All airports throughout the world have many forms of transport to get residents and visitors to their destination so why shouldn't Palma airport have a choice and if the taxi companies give a good service at a fair price people will still use the Taxi's .The goverment are not stopping Taxi's just giving people the freedom of choice.
Don't really know to much about it and basically I would rather pay for a taxi a get to my destination than be stuck on a bus for ages. Will it really effect their trade? I believe every one has the right to strike but it's a bit pointless if they are basically wiping out one of the months the can actually work. Surely they would want to provide a better service than the bus
Sorry previouse comment should have read no reason for the buses not to operate.
Now maybe a good time for the bus companies who have purchased coaches to employ drivers and put the buses into operation on the strike days ? If the taxi's block the coaches then arrest them and remove their licences !! Taxi drivers trying to spoil holidays for people who also work hard for their money and who also save hard for holidays being spoilt by greedy taxi drivers. If their are no taxi's operating on strike days then there is no reason for buses to operate ?
I hope these striking taxi drivers have deep pockets because they are going to need them.
This taxi strike will damage the cabbies and do them a lot of harm, as nobody wants strikes. Here's a suggestion for improving the bus service. The Intermodal station is a wonderful benefit for the city. But - before it and the Parc de Estacións was built the old bus station was much more convenient for taking the EMT bus to the airport. Just cross the Soller tram tracks from the bus station and the stop was there. Surely it is logical to bring the airport bus into the Intermodal for bus and train connections all over the island. There is plenty of capacity there, and tourists would not have to drag luggage up & down the escalators and cross the Avenida to get the airport bus. This would give the traveller a better choice between bus and taxi.
The mean faced Striking Taxi Driver, charged me €25.00 from the Airport to Plaza Espana ,Palma. How I wish I should have got a receipt, and his Licence Numbers. How foolish these Drivers are acting, with strikes. They will take no income, waste fuel, cause unnecessary wear to their dirty diesel vehicles, from stop start convoying around Palma. Start to penalise them with warnings to withdraw their licences, and banned for life. Put up a Pricing Board at the Airport Queue area. To stop Rip - Off charging.
