The new owner of the Gran Hotel Soller, Joseph Le Mer of French company Sermeta, has acquired two further properties via the Alvotel division.

He has taken up an option to buy the old cinema Alcázar, which has been closed for a number of years and has fallen into a state of disrepair. Close to the Gran Hotel, it seems likely that this will be converted into apartments in order to provide more accommodation for the hotel. This has not, however, been confirmed and nor has the price of the property.

The previous owner of the Gran Hotel, Andreu Gelabert, once made a proposal to the town hall for the old cinema to become a public building. This was not done for planning reasons. Whatever its purpose will be, the cinema offers a number of possibilities.

The other purchase is the Aimia Hotel in Puerto Soller. A family, four-star hotel which opened in 2004, its current owners announced the sale to Sermeta via Facebook a few days ago. The purchase price for this has also not been disclosed.

The Gran Hotel was bought for ten million euros. Staff at both it and the Aimia are being kept on.
