A month after Pollensa town hall executed the order to remove the Gelats Valls ice-cream kiosk in Puerto Pollensa, there is now also a question about the Valls kiosk off the Plaça Major in the old town. The administration is looking into whether the Valls family can continue with this kiosk with all guarantees.

Tots per Pollença, the party of former mayor Tomeu Cifre, raised this issue at last week's council meeting, and the current mayor, Miquel Àngel March, explained that the situation isn't the same as the one in Puerto Pollensa as the kiosk isn't situated on the public way as such. It is on land which is "seemingly municipal" but not actually registered.

The town hall is therefore studying whether it is necessary to intercede and to arrive at a solution going forward. According to municipal technicians, the Pollensa kiosk is different in a further way to the one that was in Puerto Pollensa because it is a demountable structure, an issue that would be key in determining its "regularisation". This said, the kiosk was not disassembled this winter.

Both Cifre and March face possible proceedings for malfeasance in having allowed the kiosk in Puerto Pollensa to continue to operate without putting it out to tender. The Valls family has, for a completely different reason (to continue with the concession), also placed a case before the courts.
