The national government's delegate to the Balearics, Maria Salom, has been holding meetings with representatives from municipalities with the main tourist resorts. The message from the town halls has been the same. More police are needed in the summer.
Salom has now met the secretary of state for security, José Antonio Nieto. She impressed on Nieto the need for there to be reinforcements to the number of National Police and Guardia Civil officers during the summer.
Additional police are provided from July to September, but there have been calls for reinforcements to come earlier. Nieto said the needs of the Balearics will be given priority, hinting that there will be greater security force presence to be "at the service of residents and tourists".

Hmm....Maybe they can deal with the teams of professional Eastern European pickpockets working places like Port de Pollensa. I (a Londoner) was one of many whose bag was unzipped and purse stolen waiting to report the theft in the local police station when it happened. There was a security camera in the shop which was on but the staff didn't know how to work and the police ignored.
