According to figures from the General Council of the Judiciary, there were more legal proceedings against corruption in the Balearics in 2016 than any other region. The number was eighteen, followed by Valencia with fifteen, and Andalusia and Castile-La Mancha, both with twelve. These were proceedings in different courts, including high courts.

Nationally, a total of 659 people were accused last year. They have been sent for trial or will go to trial for crimes including bribery, malfeasance, the trafficking of influence, embezzlement and various ones in respect of land use or planning.

Of the 659, there were 97 people in the Balearics. This figure was well above that of any other region. In second place were Andalusia and the Canaries, both with 61. There were two regions without any cases - Cantabria and Navarre.
