There are all sorts of ways in which tourism promotion can be done. Some are less conventional than others. Having a car named after a town and resort is surely one of the more unusual, and this is what Alcudia is seeking.
The motor manufacturer Seat is to introduce a new model. It has been looking for somewhere in Spain that will give the new model its name. The main stipulation is that the name has to start with an A. The town hall has therefore fired off a letter to Seat's president and advanced the case for the car to be the Seat Alcudia.
The president will be able to sift through promotional material, including an audio guide, that has accompanied the letter. The town hall points out to the president that Alcudia is already an important "brand", known by lovers of nature, sport, culture, heritage, sun and beach. It is one of the main tourist destinations in Majorca, attracting thousands of European visitors, especially from the UK, Germany and Scandinavia.
So, Alcudia has everything that is needed to become a car name and not any old car: this will be a new SUV, due to be launched next year. Will it be Alcudia? There must be some fairly stiff competition. How many "pueblos" in Spain start with an A? I wouldn't even try and guess. The Seat president is probably very busy.

Alcuida come from the Arabic name for the village, it means The Hill (Al Kuid). King James the Conqueror's people wanted to rename it Saint James but the Arabic name stuck.
Sorry - that was a bad slip! Should have said SEAT ÁVILA. (No offence intended!)
Día de los Santos Inocentes -December 28th is April Fool's Day. I think the Fiat Ávila would be much more appropriate.
It has the sound of an April Fool, George, but it is for real.
You never truly know when living in Mallorca, but this must be a candidate for this year's MDB April Fools?
