Toastmasters all across the island have been busy for the last six months planning and organising the biggest event in the Toastmasters calendar. From 28 to 30 April, Mallorca Wordsmiths Toastmasters club here in Majorca will host the Division Spring Conference. This three-day event- which is being generously sponsored by La Caixa bank- will take place at the Hotel Horizonte, Bonanova, which support the club in every way and where the meetings take place every Wednesday evening. This will be an event not to be missed by anyone interested in public speaking, leadership skills and personal development.
Toastmasters from Mallorca Wordsmiths participating in the Division Contest have already competed and won at club level, then competed again at Area level, which includes clubs from Alicante, Murcia and Valencia. At division level they will be competing with clubs from Barcelona and the winner from the Division will go on to compete at District level in Winterthur, Switzerland on 14 May. We have a dream - a vision - that a member participating in this conference will go all the way to the top to the International Speech Contest, which is being held this year in Vancouver, to claim the title of Toastmaster International Speaker of the year.
There are no teachers or professors in Toastmasters, we simply learn from each other by giving evaluations/feedback. For the evaluation contest a Toastmaster will present a speech which will then be evaluated by the winners of the evaluation contests at club and area level. Contests will take place in Spanish and English.
We will have keynote speakers from Brussels, Barcelona, London and Majorca. International speakers who will be entertaining and educating us with the art of storytelling, voice coaching, communication and leadership skills. It will be a day of learning while having fun.
Doors are open to guests on Saturday 29 April, which is the central day with different options to choose from: Saturday 9.00am-6.30pm includes speech and evaluation contests both in Spanish and English. Keynote speakers, buffet lunch and morning coffee break - price 30 euros.
Morning session only 9.00-1.00 includes speech and evaluation contest in Spanish, keynote speaker, coffee break - price 15 euros.
Afternoon session only 2.30-6.30 includes speech and evaluation contest in English, keynote speakers - price 10 euros

Mallorca Wordsmiths was founded in 2002 as an English speaking club but in 2012 it was decided, by popular demand, to conduct the meetings in Spanish on the first and third Wednesday of the month and English on the second and fourth Wednesday. This has proved hugely popular especially for those of us wanting to practise our language skills. The Toastmasters format is second to none and teaches us so much we need to know about ourselves to enable us to lead fuller, richer and more satisfying lives on a daily basis. Toastmasters is a world leader in communication and leadership development. It is a non-profit organisation with over 345,000 members, 15,900 clubs in 142 different countries. It was founded in 1923 by a Dr Ralph Smedley, who recognised all those years ago that poor communication skills hold people back in every walk of their lives. Nothing has changed; how we communicate with each other is still of vital importance today.
